Everything Everywhere all at Once Poster

Poster concept for the Oscar-winning movie

Inspired by A24’s film ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, this design aimed to present a new angle on the film. Due to the movie’s universe-hopping plot and its representation of large-scale societal issues, much of the existing promotional material being centred around chaotic, overwhelming visuals.

While this is an integral aspect of the film and something that should be represented, I wanted to explore the more personal parts of the film, with its rich and complex family relationships underpinning every sci-fi action scene. One of the most iconic and touching lines from this film comes nears the stories climax, where sentimental husband Waymond confesses to this wife that ‘In another life, I’d enjoy just doing laundry and taxes with you’. The image of these bills presents the mundanity of life, acting as a point of contrast to the wild, absurdist adventure that follows.

While the bills themselves would have been fairly uncommunicative and one-dimensional, the post-it notes seen throughout the film would have been far more engaging as a concept, having option to convey the subtleties of the movie’s plot and characters. This has the potential to add more depth to the design, with the small details and references helping to interest viewers with existing knowledge, improving the overall user experience and success of this concept.

In the final concept, having a realistic and authentic image caries the success of this design. Imperfections in texture and elements such as the crumbs in the top left add visual noise, helping this image to feel more believable. The coffee ring and googly eyes are direct references to imagery from the film, creating a strong connection between the product and its promotional material. With the conventional approach to movie posters being to show the scale and size of its narrative, this much tighter, introspective perspective would allow this poster to stand out.

Combining this genre-defying scope with vibrant, eye-catching colours and a sense of intrigue through its abstract imagery would undoubtably make this poster effective in online and outdoor advertising environments.
