Sky Creative Broadcast
Work for Sky News, Sports and Sports News
While on the Graphic Design Graduate programme at Sky Creative, I was able to work within the Sky broadcast teams, contributing to their social media and digital presence as well as their live TV channels.
Within the Sky News team, my work supported fast-paced news coverage, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and visual impact under tight deadlines. This included breaking news stories surrounding the US elections, the snapchat and social media platforms Sky News spans across, and the longer form documentaries and podcasts, which require a bespoke visual identity. This experience strengthened my skills in real-time design, teamwork, and editorial communication.
My time in Sky Sports was more singularly focussed solely on the Netball Super League’s updated visual identity. With the brand being reenergised and elevated, I worked on creating and developing three key routes the competition’s graphic material could take. After refining these options and pitching them to various senior figures, the bold, vibrant and energetic route was chosen, forming the core concept for the NSL’s identity on Sky Sports, spanning from the idents, social media, leaderboards and in-match graphics.
In the Sky Sports News graphic design team, I was producing dynamic visuals for live sports coverage, studio segments, and digital content. This role involved quick turnaround design under pressure, aligning with brand guidelines while reacting to real-time sporting events. Working on the SSN digital sub-brands was particularly engaging, developing recognisable identities for various regular online segments, working within the guidelines huge organisations, like the NFL and EFL.
My experience in Sky Creative broadcast spanned both fast-paced, reactive designs for live TV and online content, as well as longer projects contributing to lasting visual identities. Having the opportunity across both of these workflows within the complex ecosystem at Sky has been incredibly rewarding, with the variety on offer and the high standards for quality content pushing me to improve my own approach and skillset. Moving between these environments was an amazing opportunity to see how different teams and individuals tackle the tasks and overcome the challenges that may arise in their specific roles.
